Open Source should not be restricted to a walled garden. When you appraise your app as being "open source", always consider making it available openly as well – and not just "available at Google Play".

Good options include of course #FDroid or, should your app not fully comply there, the #IzzySoftRepo – but the least you can do is tagging your releases and attach a signed release APK 😉

Oh, and of course make sure to declare a #foss license for it 😄

We just released #CouchDB 3.3.1, fixing a rather major issue from CouchDB 3.3.0. We recommend everyone on 3.3.0 to upgrade quickly: blog.couchdb.org/2023/01/11/3-

“You can find us anywhere you get your podcasts.”

I *adore* this phrase, because it has been like two whole-ass decades and not one single venture capital darling has managed to unseat plain RSS as the distribution method for podcasts. Not one. (And they have really tried!)

Podcasts are just out there, like air. You don’t go to one place to get them; you get them from everywhere and anywhere. You can choose how you want to engage with them and manage them and it is legitimately heartwarming that nothing has ever gotten in the way of that being a fundamental fact.

This is the best of what the web is. It will never have a stock ticker or even a marketing scheme. Most people don’t even know it is there. But it endures (past the many, many attempts by squillionaire corporates to kill it) because of its absolute unshakable utility.

My suggestion: any time you hear “anywhere you get your podcasts”, send a little thanks to RSS for keeping the real web alive.

I’m happy to announce the immediate availability of PouchDB 8.0.0 — This is mainly a source-code rejuvenation release in where we are *finally* starting the ES6 transition.

But there are also a few nice new features and bugfixes along the way, including an activeTasks() API and *drumroll* purge() for the indexeddb adapter.

Oh yes, @fastmail joined Mastodon!

@fastmail you need to verify your account.

Until you do, for my own followers I can say with confidence this is them because I am a customer and this was in their official 2022 end of year newsletter. 😉

Fedi meta about scaling

My biggest influencers are my parents, and they barely have any followers. So I am quite sure fedi is able to properly scale for social relations just fine

You’re not the product anymore. You’re a community member in your host’s ad-free server they pay for. There’s no venture capitalist payday coming for them. Everything you do here costs your host a little bit of money. Find out how you can chip in.
